At FutureTracker, we've always been proud of our diverse and passionate team members. As this week marks the conclusion of Natalia Mendez's time with us, we wanted to spotlight her experience with FutureTracker and the transformative journey she undertook.
As a MASc student in Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick, Natalia opted to complete a three-month placement in the professional world instead of a dissertation for her course.
“As part of my course, we get the option to write a dissertation or to complete a 3-month placement. I was able to arrange an interview with Fred and was given the opportunity to complete my placement at FutureTracker. I really wanted to get involved with the company since they place sustainability at the core of their operations whilst also empowering other companies to measure their carbon footprint and implement strategies to reduce their negative impact on the environment.”
Throughout her internship, Natalia made significant contributions to FutureTracker's operations. She commenced her journey with in-depth research on internationally recognised sustainability standards and metrics. With time, she evolved into a key player, with her work culminating in the redevelopment of FutureTracker’s Policy and Commitments module, which will help companies cover wider aspects of sustainability and set concrete targets to work towards.
For Natalia, FutureTracker wasn’t just a stepping stone; it was an important learning experience. From mastering basic corporate etiquettes like email signatures to learning the ropes of new software, Natalia embraced every challenge.
“I have learned so much during this internship, from simple things such as how to add an email signature to learning how to use new software to create forms which will help FutureTracker collect data from clients. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to work on a full project from its start to its completion. I was involved in the initial research stage for Module 2, then was able to develop the forms themselves and the output templates - and finally I will get to help trial this Module with some clients before my internship wraps up. I am incredibly thankful for the team at FutureTracker for guiding me throughout this process and providing feedback that will be very useful in future endeavours.”
What sets FutureTracker apart? Its team, according to Natalia. A collective group, deeply rooted in their passion for sustainability, the FutureTracker team left an indelible mark on her. Her interactions and collaborations with our professionals enriched her experience, and the company's long-term goals resonated deeply with her.
As Natalia's time with us comes to an end, she sets her sights on completing her MASc. However, this is not the end of her sustainable journey. With a vision to contribute to environmental consultancy, Natalia's drive is bound to inspire businesses to not only boost their public image but genuinely contribute to healing our planet.
In closing, Natalia's time at FutureTracker was more than just an internship; it was an experience brimming with learning, growth, and shared purpose. We are immensely grateful for her contributions and are excited to see the positive change she will bring to the world of sustainability. Best wishes, Natalia, on your future endeavours!
